The earthquake in Haiti has brought the world together for a country known for its corruption and poverty. It took a devastating natural disaster for a change that would not have happened otherwise. Sad, but true. Despite the horrific damages to a country use to a level of poverty we could never imagine, this was the straw that broke the camel’s back.
The recent killing of a young boy in Chicago has highlighted the need for parents to take more responsibility and control of their kids. This is the lost generation, the one that got away.
Recent developments in Tibet & Nepal show just how much influence the Communist Chinese have over these countries, and their policies towards Tibetans. The Communist Chinese continue to wield influence with economic and political support at the expense of Tibet and Tibetans.
The pressure is on and with a little over 15 months to go, the costs for the Olympics continue to spiral out of control. Guess who’s stuck with the bill? This begs the question, why do we allow these costs to rise when estimates are in place?
What ever happened to consumer safety regulations that are suppose to protect us from shoddy and dangerous imports from countries like China?? Oh yeah, I forgot, it’s the money, stupid! Not only have we turned a blind eye to products that kill, maim, injure, poison, etc.
Real estate market down, stock market down, RRSP’s down, world economy down… and… prices going up. Turn on the news and all you ever hear about is the recession. Forget the war in the Middle East. Forget the Caley Anderson case. Forget the OJ Simpson case. It’s mostly about the recessive economy. Call me ignorant of what’s happening in the world, but I’m just sick of watching the news. Nothing but depression and negativity. It’s like watching a soap opera.

As many have seen, the opening ceremony was a sight to behold. True to China’s promises, it was the most lavish and impressive of all opening olympic ceremonies. Personally, I enjoyed it immensely. I felt great pride, but it was tempered by Did I mention that the cost was near $100 million? Accumulated costs are close to $2 Billion for the entire Olympics.

Do I have to say it again? I guess I do! China should not have been rewarded with hosting the 2008 Olympics. First, let’s try to figure out what the hell the IOC was thinking when they awarded the 2008 Olympics to China. I believe that it was heavily swayed by economic factors and greed. Humanitarian issues and social justice got the hook and as a result, the Tibetan and Darfur issues were swept under the rug, yet again.
