The earthquake in Haiti has brought the world together for a country known for its corruption and poverty. It took a devastating natural disaster for a change that would not have happened otherwise. Sad, but true. Despite the horrific damages to a country use to a level of poverty we could never imagine, this was the straw that broke the camel’s back. It is heartening to see the world respond with financial and humanitarian aid. The outflow of support and help once again shows that we as humans, have no bounds when it comes to helping those in need. Pictures of death and destruction from Haiti have reached around the globe and the response has been nothing short of amazing. Even countries with their own problems have pledged support either with rescue teams, food, medical aid and money. Ordinary citizens have opened their hearts and wallets to donate funds to help those who have lost everything. It truly warms my heart to see such kind heartedness. The Haitians have suffered immensely and will continue to suffer for years to come. Let us hope that we do not abandon them until they have sufficiently recovered. They will need much time to repair their infrastructure, their roads, their government, their security and their hopes for the future. To all of you who have donated funds for Haiti, my thanks, you have given me faith in humankind.
